Murder in a Small Town a psychological crime drama acquired by Fox for the 2024/24 season.
The show is based on the Karl Alberg books by late Canadian author L. R. Wright. In the series Karl Alberg moves to a quiet coastal town to soothe a psyche that has been battered by big-city police work. But this gentle paradise has more than its share of secrets, and Karl will need to call upon all the skills that made him a world-class detective in solving the murders that, even in this seemingly idyllic setting, continue to wash up on his shore. Cassandra, a local librarian comes to his aid and she becomes Alberg’s muse, foil and romantic interest.
Rossif Sutherland and Kristin Kreuk star as Alberg and Cassandra. Ian Weir (Edgemont) will serve as head writer, Milan Cheylov (The Cleaning Lady) will direct.
Kreuk became famous for her breakout role as Lana Lang on Smallville alongside Tom Welling’s Clark Kent. Smallville is largely responsible for making superhero stories mainstream on TV and Film. More recently she starred in Canadian set legal drama Burden of Truth.
Michael Thorn, Fox Entertainment’s President, Scripted Programming had this to say:
“Murder in a Small Town illustrates our ongoing strategy to identify and commission impactful global content in a smart and effective manner with proven creative partners”.
Production on Murder in a Small Town begins in January in British Columbia. Cheylov is executive producing and directing multiple episodes. Also executive producing are Weir, Nick Orchard (Soapbox Productions), Morris Ruskin and Sharon Wisnia (Mojo Global Arts) and Jon Cotton.
