Sleuthers fan prepare yourselves, Cameron Mathison is leaving long running Hallmark Mystery series Hannah Swensen Mysteries.
Mathison who has appeared alongside Alison Sweeney in all the Hannah Swensen/Murder She Baked instalments recently signed with GAF (Great American Family). It was not clear at the time how that would affect his role here but Hallmark has now clarified matters.
The Hannah Swensen Mysteries are based on the series of novels by Joanna Fluke. The series began back in 2015 (running until 2017) starring Alison Sweeney and Cameron Mathison before the show went on a four year hiatus. It returned with a new name in 2021 and a new single instalment Sweet Revenge. Two years later it returned with two more instalments bringing us up to the present.
Will They Won’t They
A major aspect of the success of the series so far is the relationship between Hannah (Swensen) and Mike (Mathison). The two have had their up and downs with several breakups much to the annoyance of viewers. It seems that the relationship is now at an end though with Mike leaving town to train at Quantico.
New Love Interest
Mathison’s exit, leads to new possibilities though and Hallmark seized that with the casting of Victor Webster (Motherland: Fort Salem). He will play Chad Norton, Lake Eden’s new Prosecuting Attorney. Hallmark fans will know that Webster and Sweeney have appeared together in previous Hallmark titles. Indeed that was a major factor in his inclusion according to Laura Gaines, Director of Development for Hallmark Media:
“The great chemistry Alison and Victor had in ‘The Wedding Veil’ trilogy made the decision to bring him into this world an easy one. It will be fun for viewers to see a different side of the legal process as Hannah learns the recipe for a strong case.”
The next instalment of Hannah Swensen is currently filming. This is the first to be written by Sweeney and is subtitled ‘One Bad Apple’. What do you think of this major change to the long running series? Will you continue to watch? Is this just the thing to attract new viewers to the series?
