Netflix have released a trailer for their gritty Western The Abandons starring Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson.

Set in Washington Territory in 1854, the series follows the matriarchs of two very different families: one a found family of orphans and outcasts bound by love and necessity and the other one of wealth and privilege bound by blood.. The families find their fates linked by two crimes, an awful secret, a star-crossed love, and a piece of land with silver underneath. The collision echoes the American struggle of the haves and have-nots, in a place just beyond the reach of justice.
Check out the trailer below.
The show filmed in Alberta with the schedule running from 14 May 2024 to 17 October 2024. Kurt Sutter known for Sons of Anarchy is the showrunner on the project. He hasd this to say:
I am fascinated by the metamorphosis of good into evil. What must transpire to drive the morally sound to become the dangerously corrupt. The Abandons explores those complex compromises through the most powerful human instinct — the love and protection of mothers.
Two Families On A Collision Course
Headey and Anderson play the two central matriarchs on a collision course.

Gillian Anderson as Constance Van Ness, the equally strong-willed matriarch of the wealthy Van Ness family who will stop at nothing to protect and grow the mining fortune she inherited from her husband and then doubled — she aims to consolidate the Van Ness clan’s power in the ruthless, unforgiving frontier.

The Found Family – Diana Silvers as Dahlia Teller, Lamar Johnson as Albert Mason, Natalia del Riego as Lilla Belle, and Nick Robinson as Elias Teller.

Lena Headey as Fiona Nolan, a strong-willed and devout Irish woman who, unable to have her own children, takes in four orphans to form her own family and will stop at nothing to protect them.
The Abandons releases all episodes on 4 December 2025 only on Netflix.
