Chesapeake shores has been renewed for a sixth and final season by Hallmark.

Easily one of the biggest series on the Hallmark channel the show is a fan favourite. TVline broke the news earlier this week. It appears that the show will be able to properly plan its end and give its audience some closure.
The series follows the O’Brien family and their romantic and professional relationships. The show starts with the return of Abby O’Brien (Meghan Ory) to the fictional town after her divorce. She then clashes with her former love interest Trace Riley (Jesse Metcalfe) while settling in to her hometown. Metcalfe left the season in a surprise move at the beginning of season 5.
“With a top-notch ensemble cast and creative team, Chesapeake Shores has shared stories that are relatable, poignant and unforgettable. We look forward to honoring the journey viewers have been on with the O’Briens with one final, special season.”
Laurie Ferneau, Hallmark’s SVP of Programming, Series statement
Filming recently started in downtown Qualicum Beach. Despite the disruption that must take place to accommodate a large production like the show it appears to be popular with residents.

Chesapeake Shores’ Impact
“Absolutely. It brings a lot of business to the community and they spend a lot of money. I think it’s great,” said Isobel Moore, a Qualicum Beach resident. Qualicum Beach is a town located on Vancouver Island with a population of over 9000 residents.
Joan Miller, film commissioner of the Vancouver Island North Film Commission was very complimentary about the show and its effect on the area.
“We followed the ratings. We knew the success of the show so there was never any hesitation in my mind. We continued to work with the production. It’s lovely that we can now speak about it. Now our crew base has grown. Our training has grown. Our region is really setting the benchmark for how to build a local crew and how to provide qualified training. Chesapeake Shores really helped us get to the next stage.“
Filming will continue until the end of June.
