Drinkwater a modern coming of comedy is now available to watch on Prime Video Canada.
Do you miss the fun, laid back teen movie of the 80s and 90s? Director Stephen Campanelli brings us this project which draws deeply from those films. The interesting twist here is likely the setting. It is based in Canada and very much highlights its British Columbia setting. This along with a modern setting that definitely has an 80s sets it apart.
In small-town British Columbia, Canada, awkward teen Mike Drinkwater has trouble fitting in and is bullied by his antagonist and rival: wealthy school jock, Luke Ryan. While Mike’s offbeat father, Hank, spends more time defrauding the government than being a role model. Hank is dealing with his own longstanding condemnation by Luke’s father Wesley Ryan, which seems to fuel Luke’s hostility towards Mike.
Enter Wallace, a young girl from the United States who is adjusting to life in a new place. All the while recovering from her own personal tragedy. Wallace’s strength of character helps transform her life and the lives of the people around her.
The film stars Eric McCormack, Daniel Doheny, Louriza Tronco, Jordan Burtchett and Bob Frazer.
Drinkwater is more than initially meets the eye. We’ve watched and can definitely recommend, we will be speaking with the stars of the film next week so make sure you keep an eye out.
What classic coming of age films do you remember from your youth?
