Apple TV+’s ambition Monsterverse tie-in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will return for a second season.
The show tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga – spanning three generations – reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.
The show’s cast includes Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Joe Tippett, Anders Holm and Mari Yamamoto.
Monsterverse
Legendary Entertainment have established a cinematic universe based on classic monster franchises. This began in 2014 with Godzilla then continued with Kong: Skull Island launching in 2017. Next Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 2019, Godzilla vs Kong in 2021 then this year the release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire in March.
The renewal comes as part of a deal with Legendary Entertainment described as a multi-series deal. There are no details currently on what those series might be about. Season one of the show filmed in British Columbia as well as Hawaii.
Chris Black and Matt Fraction are co-creators and co-showrunners on the show. Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures, and Matt Shakman, Andrew Colville and Jen Roskind serve as executive producers.
