CBS hit show Fire Country will be joined by its own spinoff Sheriff Country starring Morena Baccarin.
Straight-shooting Sheriff Mickey Fox (Morena Baccarin), the stepsister of Cal Fire’s division chief Sharon Leone (Diane Farr), investigates criminal activity as she patrols the streets of small-town Edgewater while contending with her ex-con father and a mysterious incident involving her wayward daughter.
The character debuted in a Fire Country episode that was a back door pilot for the spinoff. CBS President Amy Reisenbach had this to say:
“We do long-term development at CBS now. [The extra year] gives us plenty of time to cast it and figure out how we want to produce it. It’s a huge opportunity for us and speaks to the kind of development we want to be doing.”
The reason for the wait seems to be that CBS has found themselves with an overabundance of shows. That also led to the cancellation of NCIS: Hawaii. That was successful part of the NCIS franchise and a show warmly received by fans.
Joining the CBS schedule in 2024/25 are a new reboot Matlock starring Kathy Bates, NCIS prequel Origins and a medical drama titled Watson that stars Morris Chestnut.
CBS Studios will produce the series, with Fire Country co-creators Tony Phelan and Joan Rater writing the first episode from a story by Phelan, Rater and co-creator and star Max Thieriot. Phelan, Rater, Thieriot, and Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed of Jerry Bruckheimer Television executive produce.
Sheriff Country will debut in the 2025/26 season so fans still have a wait ahead of them.
