THE ABANDONS Netflix Western Starts Alberta Filming

Netflix prestige western The Abandons has offered a look at the principal cast as filming begins this month in Alberta.

The Abandons follows group of diverse renegade families living on the fringes of society in 1850s Oregon. These lost souls band together to fight corrupt forces and do anything they can to save their land. The Western series will explore the jagged line between survival and law, the consequences of violence, and the corrosive power of secrets as this makeshift family battles to keep what’s theirs.

Casting

Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson lead the ensemble cast. The show also stars Nick Robinson, Diana Silvers, Lucas Till, Aisling Franciosi, Lamar Johnson and Natalia del Riego.

Character Breakdowns

Lena Headey as Fiona Nolan, a strong-willed and devout Irish woman who, unable to have her own children, takes in four orphans to form her own family and will stop at nothing to protect them.

Gillian Anderson as Constance Van Ness. The equally strong-willed matriarch of the wealthy Van Ness family. She will stop at nothing to protect and grow the mining fortune she inherited from her husband and then doubled — she aims to consolidate the Van Ness clan’s power in the ruthless, unforgiving frontier.

The Abandons comes from Kurt Sutter, he is the creator, showrunner and EP on the project.

“I am fascinated by the metamorphosis of good into evil. What must transpire to drive the morally sound to become the dangerously corrupt. The Abandons explores those complex compromises through the most powerful human instinct — the love and protection of mothers.“

Filming started on 14 May 2024 and will run through 17 October 2024.
