STAR TREK: SECTION 31 Debuts Next Month

Michelle Yeoh is back, reprising her role as the charismatic and ruthless Emperor Philippa Georgiou. Now a member of Section 31 the clandestine wing of Starfleet.

Section 31 is the covert ops division of Starfleet. While traditional Starfleet members hear whispers of its existence, it’s not officially acknowledged by the organization. Their goal is to further the Federation’s goals when all other traditional methods of diplomacy fall apart. They get some leverage to operate right at the line of what’s acceptable.

The organisation has appeared in various Star Trek series including Star Trek: Enterprise and Deep Space Nine.

Michelle Yeoh, Omari Hardwick, Kacey Rohl, Sam Richardson, Sven Ruygrok, Robert Kazinsky, Humberly Gonzalez and James Hiroyuki Liao star.

Yeoh has had a busy last two years appearing in Disney+ American Born Chinese and Netflix action comedy The Brothers Sun. Those are just two of the major roles, there were also several voice roles including Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

Star Trek as a franchise shows no signs of slowing down even with the ending of Picard and Discovery. In fact, there is a new purpose-built fim studio constructed for Starfleet Academy the upcoming series set in the Discovery future timeline.

Olatunde Osunsanmi directs the film. Star Trek: Section 31 filmed in Toronto from 29 January 2024 until 13 March 2024.

Star Trek: Section 31 premieres January 24 2025 on Paramount+.
