Hallmark has reconsidered its controversial decision to release The Way Home Season 3 on Hallmark+ before the Hallmark Channel.
The original plan for Hallmark's biggest show was a return on 2 January 2025. Surely something to warm up those winter nights and likely to heat up subscriber numbers for Hallmark's relaunched streaming offering. Unfortunately for the existing fan base for the time travel family drama they would have to wait until the Fall to watch. That's quite a delay up there with the current wait for blockbuster films to move through SVOD and finally be available to stream.
Backlash
Something that came up repeatedly in the three weeks since this change was the idea of having to pay twice. The Hallmark Channel is a cable channel, so it is often part of a package a customer has to pay for aka a bundle. These bundles are often expensive so it seems a controversial choice, especially after the two previous seasons went so well ratings wise. Fans who remained with the Hallmark Channel would have a 7 month+ extra wait to catch up with the Landry's.
Very very disappointed with Hallmark in moving the series to their pay channel. Anything to make a buck from their loyal viewers. There are many families and retirees that can’t afford streaming.
I think it may be time to cut Hallmark altogether!- Dorothy
More than one entertainment news outlet has referenced fan calls for a boycott of Hallmark+. Reaction could be seen across Facebook groups but could be seen across news sites where the story broke.
The Way Home Season 3 will now premiere on Hallmark Channel on Friday, 3 January, at 9 pm. It will stream the next day on Hallmark+.
