WE WERE LIARS Renewed For Season 2

We Were Liars will be back for Season 2 as Prime Video orders a new season for the YA thriller.

We Were Liars followed Cadence Sinclair Eastman (Emily Alyn Lind) and her tight-knit inner circle, nicknamed the Liars, during their summer escapades on her grandfather’s New England private island.

The Sinclairs are American royalty—known for their good looks, old money, and enviable bond—but after a mysterious accident changes Cadence’s life forever, everyone, including her beloved Liars, seems to have something to hide.

We Were Liars is an adaptation of E. Lockhart’s bestselling book. The first season covered the book and there isn’t a direct sequel to adapt. There is however a prequel which goes back to when the moms were teenagers and something happened on the island.

Lockhart stated:

“If you watch We Were Liars all the way til the end and you watch the little coda, you can see that that coda tips to the start of Family of Liars. We have not forgotten about what’s going on with Johnny and Carrie.”

“MacKenzie and Plec have big, big plans for Season Two, including everything readers of my books are dying to see onscreen —  and a lot of surprises as well”

Ensemble Cast

Emily Alyn Lind stars as Cadence Sinclair Eastman and the series also stars Shubham Maheshwari, Esther McGregor, Joseph Zada, Caitlin FitzGerald, Mamie Gummer, Candice King, Rahul Kohli, and David Morse.

Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie wrote, exec produced and served as co-showrunners on season one. Plec discussed what a second season might look like. She told Deadline that the second season would “theoretically” take viewers “deeper into the moms’ lives. And add another generation to the story”.
