The Duffer Brothers next Netflix project Something Very Bad Is About To Happen will premiere in March

The story centers on Rachel Harkin (Camila Morrone) and Nicky Cunningham (Adam DiMarco). The couple travels to his wealthy family’s secluded vacation home midwinter, where they are set to be married in five days. Rachel’s paranoia grows as strange events begin to occur.

Each episode tracks a single day around this private ceremony, and each day Rachel’s paranoia and superstition, fed by an accelerating number of strange occurrences, ramps up.

The Duffer Brothers are in demand after the success of Stranger Things, which came to an end on New year’s Day. Now the Duffer Brothers are heading to Paramount after signing a major deal with the studio. That deal will include theatrical releases as well as TV shows.

Creator Haley Z. Boston describes the show as exploring “the fear of marrying the wrong person through a horror lens,” drawing inspiration from classics like Carrie and Rosemary’s Baby.

Anxiety and Paranoia

Discussing the show’s oppressive mood, creator Boston explains that the goal was for the audience to “feel the paranoia and the fear that Rachel is feeling,” deliberately “constructing the show in terms of her discomfort” even when the character isn’t present. She connects this dread to the universal anxiety of entering a partner’s childhood home and meeting the in-laws, noting that “it really represents how it feels to walk into a house for the first time… There’s all this lore that you are not aware of and you’re suddenly stepping into it”.

Haley Z. Boston is the creator and showrunner on the project. Filming on the limited series took place in Mississauga, Ontario. Shooting ran from 20 January 2025 through to 1 May 2025.

Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen will premiere on Thursday, 26th March 2026 on Netflix.
