Vince Vaughn and Theo James are in Toronto to film 50s crime drama The Bookie and The Bruiser.

Set in 1959 New York, the film follows a Jewish WWII veteran named Rivner and an oversized Italian-American tough, called Boscolo, as they partner up in an illicit gambling operation. Their profitable venture becomes complicated when they clash with an Irish gang and the Mafia.
S. Craig Zahler is the writer and director on the project. Zahler and Vaughn have previously worked together on two other films. Vaughn starred in Brawl in Cell Block 99 in 2017 and Dragged Across Concrete in 2018.
Vaughn had this to say about the collaboration when speaking to Collider:
“As much as I love all of his movies, I’m really excited. This is a very fun, very cool movie to be a part of.”
British actor Theo James is coming off Canadian shot horror The Monkey from Osgood Perkins. He provided the voice of Bastion in Disney’s breakout hit X-Men ’97. He also appeared in a season of White Lotus.
Filming in Toronto on the feature began on 1 April 2026 and will be completed on 21 May 2021.
We don’t have a premiere date yet for The Bookie and The Bruiser.
