CRUEL SUMMER Returns This Summer

Cruel Summer Season 2 has finally provided a clue to when it will be returning to Freeform.

The first season of Cruel Summer is the highest rated series in Freeform history. Olivia Holt, Chiara Aurelia, Froy Gutierrez and Harley Quinn Smith starred in the show set in 90s small town Texas.

The show was officially renewed in June 2021.

Interconnected Timelines

The series take place over the course of three years. Each year being a separate timeline of events in the lives of two teenage girls at the centre of a shocking crime. The show’s renewal was welcome news to the fans. The news that the show has an anthology format came as a surprise to the majority of the fanbase. Many of the fans were expecting to learn more about the stories of Jeanette and Kate.

Season two features a brand new cast and mystery. Set in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest it follows the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship.

Season 2

Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan, Isabella and Megan’s best friend Luke, the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward.

The series stars Sadie Stanley, Lexi Underwood, Griffin Gluck, KaDee Strickland, Lisa Yamada and Sean Blakemore. Paul Adelstein will recur.

Season two filmed in Richmond, British Columbia with the filming completed on 7 September 2022

Cruel Summer comes from studio Entertainment One (eOne). Elle Triedman serves as showrunner. Executive producers include Triedman, Bill Purple, Tia Napolitano and Iron Ocean Productions’ Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple.
