Mike Flanagan is back with another horror adaption at Netflix with The Fall of the House of Usher.
The Fall of the House of Usher is a loose adaption based on the stories of Edgar Allen Poe. The short story debuted in September 1839. Flanagan has been steadily releasing horror series for Netflix since 2018 including Midnight Mass and the Haunting of Hill House.
The new adaption is about ruthless siblings Roderick (Bruce Greenwood) and Madeline Usher (Mary McDonnell) who have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into an empire of wealth, privilege, and power. But past secrets start coming to light when the heirs to the Usher dynasty start dying at the hands of a mysterious woman (Carla Gugino) from their childhood.
Carla Gugino spoke about the show during Netflix’s Tudum event:
It’s bats**t crazy in the best possible way. It has quite a lot of very dark humor, but also really touches the soul . . .There is a fantastical supernatural element to the story, and [Verna} is the manifestation of that. You could say she’s the executor of fate or the executor of karma.
The Fall of the House of Usher also stars Mark Hamill, Carl Lumbly, Henry Thomas, Samantha Sloyan, T’nia Miller, Rahul Kohli, Kate Siegel, Sauriyan Sapkota, Zach Gilford, Katie Parker, Michael Trucco, Michael Goodwin, Crystal Balint, Kylegh Curran, Paola Nunez, Aya Furukawa, Matt Biedel, Daniel Jun, Ruth Codd, Robert Longstreet, Annabeth Gish, Igby Rigney, Willa Fitzgerald.
The horror adaption was filmed in British Columbia between January 31 2022 and July 13 2022. Locations used included the Vancouver Art Gallery and a house in Delta.
The Fall of the House of Usher will premiere on 12 October 2023 only on Netflix.
