Earpers rejoice the little show that could returns with a TV special in Wynonna Earp: Vengeance.
Creator, showrunner Emily Andras broke the news during an interview for Vanity Fair. Coming from humble beginnings on the Syfy channel the adaption of the comic series of the same name from Beau Smith the show has become an enduring part of pop culture. Lasting 49 episodes over 4 seasons the show has spawned fan conventions around the world and brought together a fan community “Earpers”.
Wynonna Earp – spicy, hard-living, demon-slaying anti-heroine and great-great-granddaughter of legendary lawman Wyatt Earp – must return, once again, to her hometown of Purgatory to battle her greatest foe yet: a psychotic villainess hellbent on revenge against Wynonna… and everyone she loves.
The show had a rocky road to success though it was very quickly embraced by the fans. Things behind the scenes led to issues with the production company not able to produce the fourth season without the help of Syfy to step in. The show really blew up when it came to Netflix after its initial run on Syfy.
Wynonna Earp is synonymous with #Wayhaught, the central pairing of Wynonna’s sister Waverly and Officer Nicole Haught. The internet fell in love with the story of their romance and its positive representation of LGBTQIA relationships in television. The show has won multiple GLAAD awards over its run.
Wynonna Earp: Vengeance stars Melanie Scrofano, Tim Rozon, Dominique Provost-Chalkley and Kat Barrell. Filming will take place from 21 February to 12 March 2024 in Calgary. Andras is on writing duties with Paolo Barzman set to direct.
