We got the chance to sit down with Seeds director and lead Kaniehtiio Horn to discuss her new film, career and Indigenous film and TV.
Ziggy is offered her first gig as an online influencer, promoting for Nature’s Oath, a seed and fertilizer company. When her cousin summons her back to the rez, she is forced into a battle to save her people’s legacy, finding her power along the way.
Seeds is a unique and engaging film which in our opinion you should go into blind to properly experience. If you have already seen the film or want our opinion check out what we thought here.
We were surprised to learn that Kaniehtiio’s desire came directly from necessity. She wrote a story she wanted to see make it to the screen and so she eventually stepped up to direct. That was after asking friends who kept responding that she should try it.
Check out this clip below where we learn about what inspired the film’s incredible poster art.
Something that we really wanted to know about was the casting process. We had seen this interview and wanted to expand on it, to find out more. We are big Meegwun Fairbrother fans and wanted to learn more about his casting. Kaniehtiio revealed that the two had been friends for a decade and had previously worked together. Horn had considered Fairbrother for Bandit or Ziggy’s cousin but decided to go with Dallas Goldtooth in that role.
