Psychological thriller Child’s Play has set Sandra Ohh as its star according to Variety.
The film follows Marlene Lee. She is the daughter of Chinese immigrant parents, who in 1983 attends an all-white summer camp for girls. In order to fit in and impress her new friend Charlene, Marlene crosses a line that will forever change her life.
Some 41 years later, in 2024, having devoted herself to a successful political career, adult Marlene strives to make meaningful societal change. But as she stands on the brink of a pivotal electoral victory, dark shadows from her past resurface when she and Charlene are forced to reconnect.
Oh is a Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner and a BAFTA Nominee. Her television credits include Grey’s Anatomy, Killing Eve and The Chair.
Wang Xiaoshuai
Wang Xiaoshuai will direct with Canadian playwright Hannah Moscovitch writing the script. Xiaoshuai is a leading figure in the Chinese Independent cinema scene. His 2019 film “So Long, My Son” won Silver Bears for Best Actor and Best Actress at the Berlinale International Film Festival.
Muscovitch’s current play “Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes” is on an Off Broadway run with Hugh Jackman starring. The play is an adaptation of Alice Munro’s short story of the same name
Filming will begin in September with shooting taking place in Toronto and North Bay, Ontario. Elevation Pictures is releasing the film in Canada.
Niv Fichman of Rhombus Media, Mike Goodridge of Good Chaos and Lu Xuan of Dong Chun (Shanghai) Films produce. Stephen Kelliher serves as executive producer for Bankside Films.
