
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is back in Vancouver for additional Season 2 filming.

The first season had the show filming in Vancouver as well as Hawaii. Season two saw filming moved to Australia on the Apple TV+ Sci-Fi series.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps. All to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and secrets. Ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell). The show takes place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga – spanning three generations – reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.
What Happened In Season One
Season One starred Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell as older and younger Lee Shaw and Anna Sawai as Cate Randa , a teacher who had an up close and personal experience with Godzilla in 2014 San Francisco.
After a series of encounters with Godzilla and the Titans. Cate (Anna Sawai), her grandmother Dr. Keiko Miura (Mari Yamamoto) – who hasn’t aged in 56 years – and friend May (Kiersey Clemons) escape the Axis Mundi below the surface where time passes differently. They arrive on Skull Island in 2017. There they reunite with Cate’s stepbrother Kentaro (Ren Watabe), Kate and Kentaro’s middle-aged father Hiroshi (Takehiro Hira) and Tim (Joe Tippett) who are now working at the Apex Cybernetics’s Research Center not Monarch. We hear King Kong roaring in the distance.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters stars Anna Sawai, Ren Watabe, Kiersey Clemons, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett, Elisa Lasowski and Takehiro Hira.
Chris Black serves as showrunner on the project. Filming for Season 2 took place in Queensland and ran from 29 July 2024 through to 18 March 2025.
