Revenge Horror Comedy THE BALCONETTES Gets Limited Theatre Release

The Balconettes will begin a limited North American theatrical run at TIFF Lightbox in Toronto.

The horror comedy is the second film from award-winning French actress Noémie Merlant. It will be avaible in limited theatres from Friday, 22 August through Thursday, 28 August.

The film will also open at the IFC Center in New York City and the Landmark Nuart in Los Angeles on August 22.

In a sweltering Marseille heat wave, three roommates gleefully meddle in the lives of their neighbors from their balcony. That is until a late-night drink spirals into a bloody confrontation. The film features an ensemble cast toplined by Souheila Yacoub (DUNE: PART TWO), Sanda Codreanu (MI IUBITA, MON AMOUR), Noémie Merlant (PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE), and Lucas Bravo (TICKET TO PARADISE).

Co-writer and director Noémie Merlant has acted in numerous films from renowned directors. They include projects like PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE(Céline Sciamma); PARIS, 13TH DISTRICT(Jacques Audiard); THE INNOCENT(Louis Garrel); TÁR (Todd Field); and EMMANUELLE (Audrey Diwan).

She won the Lumières Award for Best Actress for her breakout role in PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE. Also picking up the César Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in THE INNOCENT. After writing and directing the short films JE SUIS #UNEBICHEand SHAKIRA, Merlant made her feature directorial debut with MI IUBITA, MON AMOURin 2020.

To see this strange, fearless little movie find its audience in such a historic space for cinema is an emotional milestone.”

The Balconettes had its World Premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024. Prestige distributor The Forge then acquired the film that same year in October 2024. Decker Sadowski, Head of Acquisitions brokered the deal.
