Tzi Ma, Rae Dawn Chong and Aileen Wu have joined Charlie Chan.

Ma (Kung Fu) stars and will serve as an executive producer. Chong (Interview With the Vampire) will play Detective Joyous Green. Wu (Alien: Romulus) will play Faye Chan, Charlie’s daughter.
Charlie Chan follows a Hong Kong immigrant who, after retiring from the Vancouver police department in frustration, quietly launches a private investigation agency, taking on cases for the city’s overlooked and forgotten. The show is a contemporary reimagining of the iconic character that made his first appearance in print in 1925.
Quentin Lee and Josh Sager are the creators and will serve as showrunners on the project.
Lee and Sager had this to say:
“Our series is a bold and necessary reinvention — a proud reclamation of a complicated legacy. By crafting an authentic and modern hero, we are transforming a once-offensive cultural caricature into a complex, dignified protagonist for a new generation.”
Ma spoke about the show’s setting in Vancouver:
“We have the opportunity to lead the charge and provide this so-called ‘day player town’ the opportunity for the world to see the wealth of our Canadian talents.”
Quentin Lee and his producing partner Cindy Au Yeung will produce through their British Columbia–based banner Margin Films.
