A brand new production house Black Harbour has launched in Vancouver.

The new service production company is the coming together a number of different partners:

Award-winning producer, line producer, and production manager Kate Kroll

Jacob Bailey who is a top tier location manager and up-and-coming producer in B.C.

The goal for Black Harbour is to bring more production back to BC. The company was built as a full-service provider for producers looking to film in the province. By combining hands-on production expertise, direct access to equipment, trusted relationships with world-class crew and vendors, the knowledge of how to get the most out of tax credits, and a deep understanding of both the creative and business side of filmmaking, the team will help productions maximize budgets while maintaining the highest standards. The team includes a collaboration of experienced individuals, equipment partners, and post-production facilities. This means they can fully support a project from development through delivery.

“At its core, Black Harbour was founded by people who genuinely love making films in British Columbia. We believe this province is home to some of the best crew, locations, and production talent in the world, and we’re passionate about helping producers access those advantages,” says partner Kate Kroll. “Our goal is not only to support great projects, but to contribute to a thriving and sustainable film industry in B.C. for years to come. After years of working on productions of every size, we saw a clear gap in the market: smaller and mid-sized projects were being forced to choose between affordability and experience.”

The team has spent years working on low-budget indie to large-scale film and television productions, so are able to offer their services for any budget level. This includes everything from budgeting, scheduling, and crew management to studio-level negotiations, financing structures, and tax credit navigation; at the same time, having key vendors and production partners already at the table allowing them to be flexible, efficient, and solutions-focused.

“Whether it’s an independent feature, a television series, or an international production coming to British Columbia, we want producers to feel like they have a trusted local partner from day one,” says partner Jonathan “J.J.” DuBois. “We understand the market, the incentives, the crews, and the challenges. Black Harbour is headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia and will work with producers and content creators from around the world. The team just attended the Banff World Media Festival. There they met with producers, financiers, distributors, and industry partners as they build their slate of upcoming projects.
