Netflix today announced the start of production for This Summer Will Be Different, based on the novel by the New York Times bestselling Canadian author, Carley Fortune.

This Summer Will Be Different, based on the beloved novel by Carley Fortune, is a simmering, sun-soaked romance set across multiple summers on Prince Edward Island. It follows Lucy, a young woman navigating her 20s and her first real love with her best friend’s brother, the one person she was never supposed to fall for.

Netflix also announced new recurring cast, including:

Jordan Rodrigues as “Miles Lam,”
Jude Wilson as “Zach”
Natalie Brown as “Christine”
James Tupper as “Ken”
Tom Barnett as “Peter”
Celia Owen as “Joy”.

Dane Clark (One More Time), Linsey Stewart (North of North) are the showrunners/creators. The show is filming on Prince Edward Island (PEI) and in Toronto and will consist of 10 episodes. Directors for the initial season include Karen Maine (Nobody Wants This), Jasmin Mozaffari (Ginny & Georgia), Fab Filippo (Save Me).

Executive Producers are Dane Clark, Linsey Stewart, Carley Fortune (Our Perfect Storm), and Jennifer Kawaja (Wayward), Elise Cousineau (Cardinal) and Sam Levine (Small Achievable Goals) for Sphere Media.

Sphere Media is the production company for the project.

The show stars Sophie Nélisse (Heated Rivalry), Francesca Reale (Do Revenge) and Roby Attal (The Haunting of Bly Manor)

This Summer Will Be Different joins a growing slate of shows from the team at Netflix in Canada. Shows including the previously released North of North, Wayward and Who Killed the Montreal Expos? as well as the upcoming Below, and The Granville Girls.
