VS Fighting - My First Time | Hollywood North News

This is my first time attending VS Fighting and I wanted to share my experience in addition to posting some pictures.

I’ve watched VS Fighting for years watching SF4, 5 and now 6 but that competition is just a small part of an incredible event. I think as an outsider looking in it is hard to grasp the size and scale of a major fighting game event like this. I’ll try to break it down.

Venue

An Amazing Venue

The venue is Millennium Point in Birmingham which is an great place located pretty close to Birmingham City Centre. I don’t think my pictures do it justice but it just really worked so well as a venue for a multi-game tournament event. Lots of separated areas with viewing screens, toilets and easy to move from space to space. And outdoor space still part of the venue if you needed to be somewhere with a smaller concentration of people

On another note while it felt far the first time walking from the City Centre that was probably a result of having to navigate it the first time and not knowing Birmingham and how oppressively hot it was. I attended all three days and I got there a lot faster on Saturday and Sunday.

Organisation

As someone who does Press for events I can’t express through words or texts how much of a relief it is to have a schedule for an event BEFORE the day of said event. Some of us are really into organising our days to get everything done and travelling hours to an event in a strange place only to know the thing you really wanted to do.

Community

I wondered about attending the event especially as I really only play Street fighter 6 and didn’t know a lot of people. Especially as an introvert I was a bit worried but I shouldn’t have been. Everyone I met was friendly and chill. I wasn’t there as a participant and I think that would make

My Thoughts

I can’t recommend VS Fighting enough and if I am lucky enough to be able to cover the event next year then I will definitely be there. One of those few major cons/tournaments that hits that sweet spot of being busy without being claustrophobic. The venue is a match for the number of attendees which unfortunately and idea that other events have abandoned in the pursuit of greater profits.

We should cherish tournaments like this and do our best to keep them around long term.
