According to a report from Deadline Ryan Hurst will be replaced as the lead on Prime Video’s God Of War.

This comes after the news that Ryan Hurst had recently been injured on the set of the video game adaptation. He tore his bicep and has since had an operation on it. Similar injuries to the one reported would take 4 – 6 months for recovery. Also it make take up to a year for returning to full strength. This has led to a production pause which remains in force up to today. The decision has been made to recast as production would not be able to wait for Hurst’s recovery. His role will be recast and there are reports that all previously completed four episodes will be largely reshot.
The need for reshooting makes sense given that most of those episodes would feature Kratos and Atreus (played by Callum Vinson) and the young actor will likely look markedly different by the time filming resumes. God of War follows father and son Kratos and Atreus (Vinson) as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god. While Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.
The show stars Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri and Danny Woodburn as Brok.
God of War is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Moore’s Tall Ship Productions.
Filming on the project takes place in Vancouver.
