VIRGIN RIVER Now Netflix Longest Running Show

Virgin River is now Netflix longest running show thanks to its season 8 renewal ahead of Season 7’s release.

Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson star in the cozy romance. Other Season 7 cast include Matheson, Annette O’Toole, Colin Lawrence, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Allen, Sarah Dugdale, Grazzini, Kai Bradbury and Kandyse McClure.

Virgin River is a romance story that kicked off with nurse practitioner Melinda Monroe (Breckenridge) moving to the remote California town of Virgin River. Yearning for a fresh start, Monroe discovered that small-town living isn’t quite as simple as she expected and that she had to learn to heal herself before she could truly make Virgin River her home.

The news of the referral comes just after production wrapped on Season 7. Season 8 will consist of 10 episodes. The streamer has yet to release a premiere date for Season 7 though it is expected end of 2025 beginning of 2026.

Why Virgin River Remains Flowing

The show is based on the romance series  by Robyn Carr are somewhat of a surprise hit when it premiered on Netflix all those years ago. It has since established itself as a hugely successful show for the international streamer. The show films in Vancouver with a reasonable budget something that other networks have attempted to emulate like with Murder In A Small Town for Fox.

The show’s regular output is a major plus. With early renewal decisions, the show sidesteps the dreaded for confirmation of renewal and hasn’t had the massive waits between seasons of other more high profile shows.  Since its 2019 premiere the show has released a new season every calendar year, a near unheard of trend for streaming originals.

Longest Running

Virgin River will become Netflix longest running show with season 8. That means going longer than Grace and Frankie and Orange Is the New Black‘s seven seasons. As well as going past Spanish teen drama Elite‘s eight seasons due to having more episodes.
