The CW Reveals Its Winter Schedule

While the CW is obviously a US network its shows and acquisitions are largely Canadian made so let’s see what is on the way.

As a network the CW is an interesting outlier, largely their ratings for shows seem to be an afterthought. That ability to ignore ratings likely comes from the partnership of CBS Entertainment Group and Warner Bros Studios and Networks that forms the network.

It might seem strange for a network with seemingly such a small footprint could give birth to such large fandoms like SPN, Riverdale and Arrowverse. They are incredibly good at mobilising interest in Social Media for their shows helped by their targeted demographics. Also helped in no small part by the usual CW to Netflix pipeline that spreads those shows around the world.

Anyway moving on to the schedule the two major items of interesting seem to be Superman & Lois returning for season 2 and the premiere of Naomi. Both DC Comics projects though not much seems to link them beyond that. The Man of Steel has been around for nearly 80 years while Naomi debuted in comics just over two years ago.

The continued success of these two projects might be a large indicator for whether the CW will continue to host DC related shows in the years to come. The network currently airs The Flash, Batwoman, Stargirl, Superman & Lois and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

HNN Picks

While we are of course looking forward to seeing the second season of Superman & Lois our interest is more peaked by two shows Nancy Drew (already returned) and the second season of Kung Fu. You can find out how Nancy Drew absolutely blew me away here. The second season didn’t stumble and expanded the lore with some interesting new potential antagonists.

The second show we are looking forward is Kung Fu Season 2. Despite the huge baggage that comes from that name the show impressed in its debut season. The well-choreographed fight scenes and well written insights into an Asian American family made the show an almost instant hit something we hope continues.
