Arctic set comedy North of North starring Anna Lambe (True Detective: Night Country) starts filming this week in Nunavut.
Nunavut is Canada’s largest and least populated territory with around 37,000 people mostly Intuit living there. Filming takes place in Iqaluit and runs from 14 March 2024 until June 18 2024.
Created and written by Inuit writer and producer Stacey Aglok MacDonald and Inuit filmmaker Alethea Arnaquq-Baril, and executive produced alongside Miranda de Pencier (Northwood Entertainment). North of North follows Siaja (Lambe), a young Inuk mother who wants to build a new future for herself, but it won’t be easy in her small Arctic town where everyone knows your business.
The showrunners – Aglok MacDonald, Arnaquq-Baril had this to say about their experiences so far:
We’ve already survived a blizzard during prep, so there’s no doubt our amazing cast and crew is ready to shoot a show in the Arctic. Also, a huge nakurmiik to our community of Iqaluit for being so welcoming — we couldn’t do this show without your support.
The show also stars Keria Cooper, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Make Harper, Braeden Clarke, Jay Ryan, Kelly William, Zorga Qaunaq and Doreen Simmonds. It will consist of ten, thirty minute episodes for its first season.
Red Marrow Media and Northwood Entertainment produce the Arctic comedy, a CBC, Netflix, APTN original series. Executive producers are Alethea Arnaquq-Baril (The Grizzlies), Stacey Aglok MacDonald (The Grizzlies), Miranda de Pencier (Anne with an E), Susan Coyne (Slings & Arrows), and Garry Campbell (Less Than Kind).
