Crave has officially unveiled their latest project, a six-episode crime drama series titled Underbelly.
Small Town Crime
Set in the serene riverside town of the Thousand Islands in Ontario, this one-hour drama promises to captivate audiences with its dark and twisted mystery surrounding an international drug ring.
The series will star Stephen Amell (Arrow) as Officer Henry Roland, Hamza Haq (Transplant) as Tommy, and Emmy and Academy Award-nominee Minnie Driver (The Serpent Queen) as May. These characters, residents of the seemingly tranquil town, find themselves entangled in a web of crime and deception.
Officer Henry Roland discovers evidence linking a missing case of illegal substances to his childhood friend, Tommy Hawley. Bound by a dark secret, Henry’s mission to save Tommy becomes increasingly complicated as a ruthless British crime family. Led by matriarch May Ferguson, the family is also searching for the missing drugs and Tommy.
A tragic accident ignites a series of events involving international drug trafficking, causing tensions to rise. Henry must navigate the suspicions of his police chief father-in-law (played by Christopher Heyerdahl of Van Helsing). While also dealing with rival officer Erica Ross (portrayed by Tamara Podemski of Reservation Dogs). As he digs deeper, he uncovers unexpected connections between the crime, Tommy’s daughter Ruby (Katia Edith Wood, 8-Bit Christmas), and her partner Miles (Jeremy Watson, SurrealEstate), pulling him further into the chaos.
Stephen Amell
Amell is staying busy after the cancellation of his wrestling drama Heels. He will star in Suits: LA the spinoff of the legal drama that experienced a major revival through Netflix.
Underbelly is produced by Shaftesbury in partnership with Crave. Global film and TV studio FIFTH SEASON co-finance and handle worldwide rights (excluding Canada). The show began filming in the Thousand Islands and continues production across Southern Ontario.
Filming locations include Grimsby, Brantford, Cobourg, and Bowmanville, with plans to move to Toronto in the coming weeks. All episodes are directed by Robert Budreau (Stockholm), with a writing team led by Graeme Stewart and Aaron Martin (Slasher).
