Welcome back Townies, let’s talk about Murder In A Small Town 1.06 – The Madness Method.
It has been a few days since the events of the last episode. Long enough that at least part of the story came out in the papers. Cassandra (Kristin Kreuk) seems to have kept herself to herself since then. That is even with Sheriff Alberg (Rossif Sutherland) trying to reach out, definitely feeling guilty.
What we also see is a chilling scene where a young man (Keenan Tracey) dispatches an older gentleman while he begs for his life. Sometimes after you have, an episode of a show like this with such heavy stakes the next week they slow things down, looks like Murder In A Small Town isn’t going for that approach. Anyway, after the call between Cassandra and Karl, which pretty much put the writing and the wall, we find out that the murder we saw is a pretty big deal in the Pacific North West.
The young man is on the run, a reward has been posted, and like clockwork, we get an invasion of helpful citizens with potential leads at the police station. One of the helpful citizens is Dr. Elizabeth Lewis (Paula Patton) who just happens to be Shane Sloan’s psychiatrist.
It seems that the killer has been in contact with Dr. Lewis and she is terrified. She’s a little much and manages to wind up pretty much everyone on the team who comes into direct contact with her.
The Madness Method
We then get treated to a couple of Alphas fighting over territory as Dr. Lewis and the Sheriff start to clash over what to do about the killer who may or may not be incoming. We get confirmation that our killer is not in fact heading to Mexico pretty quickly.
Even without Karl’s near paranoia it is easy to see that the doctor is up to something. I will admit it probably took me longer than it should because good grief it is Paula Patton. That woman is stunning and exudes confidence, which really helped with the conflict with our beloved sheriff.
This episode is pretty tight in terms of sticking to police matters almost entirely with Cassandra coming in to the station because someone cannot read the room and had her submit her written statement.
We get an interesting set of scenes where the young killer gets a ride nearer to the doctor’s neighbourhood, which hints at a potential twist in the story. Looking back on it was well done as we had everyone nudging us in one direction.
Corporal Yen
I told you. There had to be more to the story of Corporal Yen’s take down of the cartel. I really liked Mya Lowe’s performance there and the conversation between the two women in general. Yen is impressed by her strength and ingenuity but understandably, Cassandra really is not at that place yet to hear that.
Our final scene was like an accident you see in slow motion. We know where it is going but we could do nothing about it. Cassandra pays Karl a visit and the two talk but are going in two very different directions. We find out something happened in Sacramento where Cassandra used to live. Something that really messed her up.
She cannot be with Karl not just, because she is mad but because of the danger he carries with him. So for now that’s the end of our OTP.
Join us next time when things are likely to be extremely awkward.
