Hollywood North News made their first visit to MCM Birmingham to see how geeks have fun in the Midlands.

MCM Birmingham or MCM Comic Con Birmingham to give it its full title takes place at the Birmingham NEC. Giving fans around the UK another option to go to celebrate their favourite fandoms without the costs involved in travelling to and staying in London.
Though we travelled up the day before which had its own problems unfortunately there were some additional issues on Friday. Still we got in and got our first look at the NEC, an awesome venue that is very easy to get lost in. I did like the larger store spaces and the integration with the railway but let’s get to the actual event.
The first panel I attended was Voices of Anime.
Voices of Anime

The panel took place on the Live Stage with veteran host CJ Allan.
GUESTS: Matthew David Rudd, Caitlin Glass, Mela Lee and Christine Marie Cabanos
Join voice actors Matthew David Rudd, Caitlin Glass, Mela Lee and Christine Marie Cabanos, for an exclusive Anime panel! Attendees got the chance to ask their fan questions and share what anime means to them.
Feminine Horror: Exploring The Female Experience in Horror Video Games

An interesting community panel that I decided to take a look at was the Feminine Horror panel. The panelists were Esme King, Laura Cross and Renee Avey with Amelia Clarke on hosting duties. The panel took place on the Gaming Stage on the con floor.

The panel will involve a discussion surrounding the differing experiences of female characters in some of our most beloved horror games as well as how female fans experiences have changed in the community spaces. From Resident Evil and Silent Hill in the 1990s to the ultra realistic horror games of the 2020s how have our female characters changed to reflect the changes in our society and fandom spaces.
The other event I attended was the Cosplay Showcase on Friday. I’ve got a whole other post for that which you can take a look at here.
If you happen to know any of the cosplayers involved please let them know.
