“In the interest of public safety and due to extreme weather and the condition of the site. We unfortunately have made the difficult decision to cancel the National Canada Day Evening Show. The fireworks display has also been cancelled.
This decision has not been made lightly. The safety of the public, the performers, the volunteers, and the crews remains our top priority.

We understand how disappointing this announcement may be, and we thank you for your understanding.” – Canadian Heritage
Earlier today, thousands of people gathered in Ottawa to celebrate the 159th anniversary of Confederation under the theme of national unity. Hosted by Julie St-Pierre and Melissa O’Neil, the Noon Show featured memorable music and dance performances by numerous Canadian artists.

Alongside remarks by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages, the midday celebration included an Order of Canada investiture ceremony. Presided over for the first time by the new Governor General, Louise Arbour, the ceremony honoured the exceptional contributions of Canadians from all walks of life.
Also among the day’s highlights was a spectacular and highly anticipated flyover by the Canadian Armed Forces Snowbirds. The crowd also cheered Olympic and Paralympic athletes, renowned athlete Rick Hansen, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen, who joined the celebration of Canada’s growing role in the Artemis II space mission. The official celebration concluded with the singing of the national anthem.
