Matthew Gray Gubler has an upcoming CBS pilot filming in Toronto titled Einstein.

Lew Einstein (Matthew Gray Gubler), the brilliant but directionless great grandson of Albert Einstein spends his days as a comfortably tenured professor until his bad boy antics land him in trouble with the law and he is pressed into service helping a local police detective (Rosa Salazar) solve her most puzzling cases.

Einstein is an adaption of the German series of the same name starring Tom Beck. The show ran for three seasons (2017 – 2019) and also starred Annika Ernst, Haley Louise Jones and Rolf Kanies.
This is not the first time we have had geniuses assisting police with solving crimes. CBS previously had a hit with Scorpion, which featured a team of geniuses led by Walter O’Brien (played by Elyes Gabel). That show ran for four seasons. High Potential an ABC adaption of the French TV series has recently completed its first season run in the US. It follows a cleaner turned consultant with an incredible mind who uses her insights to help solve crimes with the police.
Gubler is instantly recognisable for his role as Dr Spencer Reid on the long running procedural Criminal Minds. As well as his acting Gubler has also been a model and author.
Filming on this project began on 27 February 2025 and will run through to 14 March 2025. Andy Breckman is the showrunner for Einstein, with Matthew Gray Gubler and Rosa Salazar the initially announced cast.
